7/28/2017 Contest update (finally got the date right)
In a WSJ interview this week, here’s how Trump described White House staff dissension: “They’re fighting over who loves me the most.” But as Trump lapped up the love in the White House, John McCain was captured by the Democrats and he cast the crucial vote in the Senate to save Obamacare.
Meanwhile, as the Senate debated the death of Obamacare on Thursday, biotechs took to the sickbed. However, although they were feeling far friskier on Friday following Obamacare’s survival, biotechs still wound up a bit wounded for the week.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 26.45% YTD (vs. up 28.33% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 21.56% YTD (vs. up 22.62% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 35.00% YTD (vs. up 36.64% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 18.42% YTD (vs. up 18.66% YTD a week ago).
HRS’s portfolio, up 71.82% YTD, had an off week but still holds the Contest lead, while ROBO’s portfolio, up 67.86% YTD, remains in second place. But we have a changing of the third place guard with TOMP’s portfolio, up 58.71% YTD, moving up a notch.
At Friday's close, 43 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 27 beating the NBI and 12 beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 19.92% and a median YTD gain of just 7.48%, with 115 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe & fun summer weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
