Del,

With any nicotine delivery method, if one truly wants to free oneself from nicotine, one must guard against trading one nicotine addiction for another. Nicotine is nicotine, no matter how it is delivered.

You're right! People will use the inhaler as a cigarette substitute rather than a means by which to quit smoking once and for all. Statistics--there's that word again--have shown that for various reasons about 20% of the population will continue to smoke, and all the King's horses and all the King's men won't be able to stop them.

I myself will 'fess up to keeping a goodly supply of nicotine gum for use on those occasions when I cannot smoke but need an emergency fix. <vbg>

In the days of yore, long before nicotine gum and patches became available, I worked with a fellow who would shred a cigarette into his coffee. He swore up and down that this held his nicotine cravings at bay for the whole of eight hours. I myself never tried it, but he sure seemed happy with it.
