Future revenues from future products for Heidelberg is the issue. Their direction is the short run market is made abundantly clear in the "short-run" section under Research and Developemnt. "Management believes that the market for presses in the short-run color printing sector...will grow more rapidly in the future than the market for traditional printing presses.... To better service this growing market in the future, the Company intends to enter into a 50/50 joint venture with Eastman Kodak Company ('Kodak'). The goal of this joint venture will be to develop a marketable 'non-impact printing' concept. In the future, this technology is expected to make it possible to transfer color digital print originals directly onto paper without intermediate steps by means of an elctrophotographic process. Non-impact printing technology is expected to function similarly to laser printing technology [Presstek's market], allowing images to be altered page by page without the need for replacing the printing plate for each change." Once again, the point is that the direction of the industry, in Heidelberg's view, is away from Presstek. And as Presstek's revenues have shown increasing reliance on Heidelberg, not decreasing, they very well need Heidelberg much more than Heidelberg needs Presstek.
