Many have asked about the renewal of Samsung. I believe that in the conference call that question was asked and quickly answered with a resounding yes. So the question is not whether Samsung will sign on but rather (1) for how long (2) what are the royalties (3) do they get any access to the blue. Samsung has benefited from being the first to adopt OLED, both in their contract with UDC and their profits. As usual, Samsung has shown a basic lack of partnership and has been willing to undercut UDC (and for that matter other American companies in the past). They have often attempted to use Korean suppliers to the chagrin of American Corp. stop supplying components when they felt like it (Goole Pixel) or steal knowhow (Apple). I would not trust them at all and feel that unless the US goes after them they will continue playing dirty with US companies. By the way the Chinese are no better. Japanese companies on the other hand have mellowed with time and have shown far greater cooperation with USD companies. Japan have also been more fair when it comes to IP law.

In sum, I believe that at this point Samsung has allot of lose. If they chose to sign only a short term contract UDC should cut them off immediately and leave them high and dry. Int he short term the stock will tumble but without the US market they will suffer billions in damages and as I know Samsung (see Apple case) their CEOs will ignore US IP law, and sell in the US... which would allow UDC to sue them for multiple patent infringement. In sum, this should be played as an all or none game. Either the factories in Korea go idle or UDC gets higher royalties and a contract extending to 2022.

Personally, I would not worry if this "chicken" game is played.... Samsung will blink because they will have to pay damages to Apple, stop selling their phones, pay damages to other phone companies and more... 90 to 120mil is small change
