Trump brought suspicion on himself by his constant praise of Putin, his defense of crimes the world knows Putin committed, even going to the extent of bashing America as being Putin's moral equivalent. His people kept having meetings with Russians ... Russians with intelligence ties ... and covering those contacts up. He hinted he would end sanctions and give back the spy nests Obama finally closed down.
A smart Trump could have fired Comey immediately and claimed it was because of him protecting Hillary. (But he actually WANTED Hillary protected. Not my opinion, he said so. )
Instead he pressured Comey to end the investigation of the campaign, asked for a personal loyalty pledge, and fired him when he wouldn't end the investigation. Then he confessed an interviewer he fired Comey because of the investigation and bragged about it to Russian government ministgers in the Oval Office. Thus he brought a special counsel on his own actions. If he fires the special counsel, he'll reinforce his obvious guilt and things will get even worse. |
