Scangraphics Inc. appoints Richard L. Rex president of its
Scanner Division

BROOMALL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 1996--Scangraphics(R) Inc. ( Scangraphics Inc ) announced Tuesday that it has appointed Richard L. Rex to the position of president of its Scanner Division.

Rex will be responsible for all of the company's scanner operations which include its design, development and manufacturing activities in Broomall, Pa., as well as Tangent Color Systems(TM), located in Englewood, Colo. Tangent Color Systems was acquired by the company in December 1995.

Rex has extensive experience in the document imaging market. He was chief executive officer of Vidar Systems Corp. of Herndon, Va., a manufacturer of monochrome and color scanners for engineering documents, X-ray films and graphics applications.

In his eight years with Vidar, Rex developed the company from a troubled start-up to a highly successful operation with substantial overseas business. Before that, he was CEO of four other turnaround or start-up manufacturing operations in the USA from 1972 on. Prior to 1972, he held senior technical positions with such companies as Hewlett Packard and Brown Boveri in the UK.

Andrew E. Trolio, president of Scangraphics, said that, "We are very pleased that Dick Rex has agreed to join us as president of our scanner operations. His terrific background and experience will
surely have a major impact on the future growth and profitability of our scanner business.

"With the acquisition of Tangent Color Systems late last year, we have the most advanced and broadest line of large document scanners in the industry. With Dick Rex at the helm of the Scanner Division, I believe that we can take full advantage of the rapidly expanding market opportunity that exists today for our imaging system products."

Trolio commented further that, "Tangent Color Systems is the leading-edge company in the field of large document color scanning and reproduction. Bringing Tangent and its team of talented people
into our company will allow us to accelerate our penetration of the Geospatial Information Systems market, while allowing us to increase market share in the growing Electronic Document Management
and Reprographics markets."

Scangraphics is a leader in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database management software products and is a pioneer and leader in scanning and image processing technology, large document scanners, backfile conversion services, and imaging software and systems.
