| | | A lot has been written and much data exists about the "dot.com" period from 1999 to 2002. The table shows Bookings, Billings, BtB, Backlog, and SOX values by month over that period.
Since Backlog was not known at the end of 1998, it was assumed to be "zero" and the ebb and flow can be shown from the starting point. Note that at the end of the period, Backlog was still up about 2.6B compared to the starting point.
BtB values were above 1.0 for the first 23 months, then it was all downhill for the remaining 13 months. During the 23 months of BtB over 1.0, Bookings, Billings and Backlog were growing steadily until the Oct/Nov 2000 period. October was the high value month for both Bookings and Billings.
A very interesting item to note is that while BtB was positive and Bookings and Billings were increasing to the high point in October, the SOX peak value occurred in March 2000, 7 months prior to October. Also, throughout the 3 year period covered by the table, the monthly SOX values had many peaks and valleys, and at the end of the 3 year period, the SOX was at 522, only 102 points above the 420 starting value.
