In a report released today, IDC said OS license shipments and competitive upgrades increased just 2.3 percent in 1997. That compares to an 8.6 percent increase in 1996.

The drop shows that corporations have other things to spend their money on besides new software -- paying consultants to help solve their Year 2000 problem, for one thing, said IDC analyst Dan Kuznetsky said. "The Year 2000 problem is definitely coming home to roost," he said.
