Intel Inside your Taurus: Ford's Visteon Unit, Microsoft, Intel To Develop Auto PC Dow Jones Newswires -- January 8, 1998 LAS VEGAS (Dow Jones)--Ford Motor Co.'s (F) Visteon Automotive Systems will collaborate with Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and Intel Corp. (INTC) to develop a personal computer platform for automobiles. In a press release Thursday, Visteon said the platform will be based on Microsoft's Windows CE operating system and Intel microprocessors. Visteon, an auto parts supplier, expects to launch a dealer-installed pilot version of the platform this summer. Among the expected features will be voice-activated control of functions such as air conditioning and the radio, a global positioning system and cellular phone services.
