Once when I was traveling home along Rt 49 in S Jersey, I suddenly came up to some crawling traffic. It was at a low-lying stretch that was covered by the Delaware Bay flowing onto it. For maybe a few hundred feet, there wasn't any road, just the bay. That sight was really disturbing.

Thankfully, the state police had just arrived to block off the route and guide us few remaining drivers through. Turned out it wasn't deep at all, but there was no way I could tell at first.

I think some people panic and do idiotic things if everything they know has disappeared under moving water. Others underestimate its power.

And it looks like Harvey's not done anytime soon drenching the area. So, there'll be more of these stories.
