I do agree this impression is true, but I don't believe this is technically the case here. On the Commissioner side, you need to let the players know what is acceptable and what is not. Kudos to Jim Brown for doing that. He basically said that you can show your disagreement with life here in the US, which the first amendment allows you to do, but you cross a red line by disrespecting our veterans by not standing during the anthem. If the NFL would simply draw such a red line, we could tell for sure who has crossed it.

As for Kaepernick personally, like with Tebow, players are saying he basically is no longer NFL caliber. Considering an NFL team would sign OJ if he still had his skills, I have no reason not to believe this. If the NFL owners were trying to send a message, clearly they failed. Again, if the NFL were competent, we'd know for sure what was really going on here.
