It was that taxes were going to be simplified by closing loopholes only rich people like himself enjoy.

You mean like unlimited child care deductions so little Barron can have $M's per year in "care", all tax deductible. IIRC, that was Melania (or was it Ivanka) championing that concept shortly after the election, and Trump seemed to like the idea.
