Where are we at now?

The problem isn't so much now. Its all the promised future entitlement spending. The exact levels are indeed only estimates, but unless the programs are changed, the medical side will overwhelm the US budget, and Social Security will only avoid doing so because hard cuts are written in to the law to cut off payments when the "trust fund is used up" if SS taxes no longer cover the payments.

our spending is higher because of the wars republicans started

The wars are nothing compared to the looming entitlement crisis, the costs, while large in every day terms or even year to year government spending terms, are insignificant in this context.
