9/8/2017 Contest update
I’ll be spending a nervous weekend anxious about my Dade County-based niece, nephew and kids. They’ve evacuated and with luck will miss the brunt of the storm. Hopefully, others in the hurricane’s path have found a safe place and Irma will result in less damage than the most dire forecasts.
Meanwhile, the stock market seemed mostly oblivious to the week’s natural disasters. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 34.56% YTD (vs. up 32.85% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI), was up 26.12% YTD (vs. up 26.81% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), was up 41.60% YTD (vs. up 43.07% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 18.15% YTD (vs. up 19.55% YTD a week ago).
It’s now a three-way race for the Contest lead. SMALLB’s portfolio, up 90.69% YTD, is back in first place, with HRS’s portfolio, up 89.60% YTD, a close second and IMAN’s portfolio, up 87.08% YTD, jumping into third place with a boost from VYGR.
At Friday's close, 44 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 30 still beating the NBI and 20 now beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 25.72% and a median YTD gain of 15.00%, with 119 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: MACK did a 1-10 reverse split
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Best wishes for a safe weekend!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
