For me it worked in steps.
First I smelled the rat back in mid-70s. I realized how fragile the small guy was.
The only solution I found was: save save save and protect your capital.

Ten years later, I saw it coming back in the late 80s. By then I had seen how a highly developed country functioned. Things were not adding up.

Most people I could talk to had one thing that I didn't have: A false sense of security.
