After strong ongoing critisism by the EU over the extremely slow progress made on Britain's divorce deal, Downing Street said PM Theresa May will underline the UK's wish for a "special partnership" with the EU after Brexit in an address next week in Florence, Italy.

Britain's EU Parliament negotiator Guy Verhofstadt claimed an "important intervention" he described as 'backsies' would be made by the PM. The fourth round of talks will begin on 25 September after they were pushed back by a week.

It's unknown if the EU is willing to allow the UK to continue their "special partnership" of semi-membership in the EU choosing only those aspects of the EU they prefer, after triggering the withdrawal process.

Downing Street declined to discuss the content of Mrs May's speech, beyond saying that she will give an "update on Brexit negotiations so far" and will "underline the government's wish for a deep and special partnership with the European Union once the UK leaves the EU".

When asked about the unusual choice of venue in a foreign country, the Downing Street spokesperson inexplicably stated, "The PM wants to speak about the UK's future relationship with Europe "in its historical heart".

Florence is perhaps best known as the home of Niccolò Machiavelli.
