I've never before heard anyone refer to Florence as "Europe's historical heart".

There are no meetings going on in Florence next week, but Theresa May has chosen to make her address there rather than the British Parliament or the EU Parliament.

I suppose it will be just Theresa May and reporters. No word whether she's booked a hotel conference room or a public area or if anyone is invited.

A very atypical performance piece.
