No we don't know the chip consumption -- but that's why I highlighted the 10 watt power consumption for the portable DVD without the LCD screen and speakers. That means that the LCD and speakers/amp consume 7 watts.

10 watts sounds like a lot for an MPEG2 decoder, DRAM, demux, AC-3, motor, servo electronics, headphone amp, and a few assorted parts. I get about 12 hours of CD audio play on 2 AA batteries from my Sony DiscMan.

Just imagine if someone integrates DRAM and the servo electronics onto an MPEG2 decoder chip! CUBE is working on it...
