In the process, he sidelined the Republicans -- who from now on will have to take his initiatives a lot more seriously, lest they find themselves irrelevant, and watch Trump get things done with support from the other side.
Your post is more clear minded than mine.

What interests me is that it's not a tug of war between Trump and Congress critters of various stripes. It's between him and Congress and Lobbyists.

Dacca, healthcare and tax reform: looking at just those three we're talking trillions of dollars. Old timey Democrats would be on his tax reform proposals like white on rice but these ones, who knows? The party has been getting tons of NY bank money and closing loopholes gores a thousand oxen. Healthcare companies have been buying legislators in bunches like bananas (Ryan?). DACCA is a Dem constituency in embryo and there a whole lot of interests who would like to pad up the eligible numbers by a few million and they all lobby and contribute.

'Not an easy project, Trump has.'

And I never mentioned Defense acquisition reform, or reform of intelligence agencies or financial industry reform, or international trade reform (globalism).... Which is real drain the swamp stuff and worth trillions$.

And the shit hasn't even hit the fan, yet.
