I guess under international agreements the protocol is you have to hear them out and take care of them while they tell you their sob-story, I'm sure there are legitimate sob-stories.

As far as I can see 50 years and trillions of dollars in aid to Africa and the ME could have been better spent.

Act of war? Yes, you're absolutely right and I believe in the future it will be viewed as the cleverest act of war strategy in history.

Would they take us in? Did Turkey help the Armenians? Armenian Genocide
