SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1998--E4 (Elecede Technologies Inc.), a Leading supplier of DVD add-in board solutions for PC manufacturers, this week announced that it will begin shipping CoolDVD(TM), the world's first Macintosh(TM) DVD upgrade kit that provides the cleanest MPEG-2 digital imagery, the purest Dolby Digital sound, and the most diverse entertainment choices for Apple(R) Power Macintosh(R) G3 Series and Power Macintosh 4400 Series of computers.
CoolDVD will be available for North America Jan. 22, 1998 and has an expected retail price of $499. CoolDVD upgrade kits for other regions in the world will be announced at a later date by E4.
The CoolDVD upgrade kit features E4's first-to-market DVD decoder card, DVD-ROM drive with ATAPI/Enhanced IDE interface. CoolDVD utilizes the ZiVA DVD decoder from C-Cube, and Auravision's VxP524 Video Stream Processor to achieve the highest quality video processing and playback, as well as the ability to be compatible with all graphics cards. CoolDVD also includes E4's CoolDVD navigation software and an array of bundled DVD entertainment titles.

The CoolDVD upgrade kit supports the full DVD specification including MPEG-2 video, Dolby Digital(TM) (AC-3) audio, and NTSC/S-Video TV-out support. CoolDVD also features multiple language capability (8-track multilingual support), 32-track subtitle support, support for Pan & Scan and wide screen formats, multiple angle support, built-in copy protection decryption, and support for full Graphics/DVD integration, including high-quality, scaleable DVD video in a window.
One of the keys to CoolDVD's superior-quality video is E4's unique data transfer method. While some PC DVD retail solutions utilize the PCI bus to transfer data, CoolDVD mixes graphics and DVD video data on-board and passes this information directly to the computer monitor. This process eliminates the PCI bus bandwidth problems that plague some PC solutions.
