Jim,

IMHO compaq has really screwed cyrix.

The laptop sales will be minimal IMHO.

There is clearly price elasticity when the sub $1000 pc was first introduced as PC prices from leading suppliers IBM/Compaq/HP etc were $1500 to $2000. Now these supplier have pretty good machines for $799.

I am not sure that a $599 or $699 GXm no name machine will stand a chance against a HP for $799 or Compaq K6 for $799.

If you are a first time customer paying a $100-$200 premium for the extra quality/service and name brand is a non-issue IMHO.

I think the market has figured this out and that's why NSM stock is in the tank.

Cyrix needs to get a 0.25 micron GXm running at 266 to 300 Mhz out there quickly priced at sub $100 or they are dead IMHO.

Compaq, HP and IBM will be the winners in the low end market as first time consumers will want to buy a brand name and currently Cyrix has none of these guys in their back pocket for the segment 0 market.
