The core will be designed to accelerate smart card deployment by issuing organizations such as banks, financial institutions, cellular telephone companies, and health care providers by offering high performance and security along with a low chip cost. The widely adopted Java Card API lets a card manufacturer build smart cards that can interoperate not only with each other but with existing cards and card-reading terminals. A Java Chip microprocessor for smart cards could accelerate the development of multifunction smart cards...."
