It looks like CNBC was looking at the raw preliminary weekly numbers.

"Special caution should be taken in interpreting week-to-week changes in money supply data, which are highly volatile and subject to revision." Also they may have failed to notice the little p which means "p -- indicates preliminary data".

The preliminary stuff jumps all over the place and generally gets revised up. I use either the 4 week or 13 week weekly average.
