Hey Jeff,
I'm trying to figure out what sort of a scam or process abuse this is.
lumendatabase.org
This is a DMCA takedown notice filed against 990 website URLs from dozens of websites, including some from ours. It alleges we (and others) are hosting copyright content from some sort of a porn video site on an SI URL. But we aren't, and the takedown notice appears to target many, many other sites also with zero of the alleged infringing content from the DMCA filer.
So, the question is, what is the real purpose for this takedown notice submission? There appears to be some sort of a highly automated scam going on here, but I'm not sure what. Someone is trying to abuse to DMCA process to influence search results in some manner.
Google automatically de-indexes these URLs unless one files a counter-claim. I suppose the question might be, who is trying to get certain pages on many sites de-indexed from Google, and why. I really can't figure this out, but the filing of these false claims is automated, and it would hardly seem worth anyone's effort to go to the trouble and manual effort of filing a counter-claim. Hence, the bot wins. But what is the bot trying to do?
Check out the other allegedly infringing URLs, its a laughable takedown notice. Yet Google unquestioningly complies with the requests to de-index the content automatically, unless someone actually cared enough to go to the effort of counter-filing.
