9/29/2017 Contest update
Biotechs closed the third quarter with a rip-roaring spurt to the finish line! Could be investors were reacting to defeat of another Republican attempt to repeal Obamacare. End-of-quarter window dressing as well as general market bullishness were also likely factors. But whatever boosted enthusiasm for biotechs, Contest portfolios benefited bodaciously.
At Friday’s & Q3's close, the Contest median was up a boffo 43.58% YTD (vs. up 20.00% at the close of Q2), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 25.98% YTD (vs. up 17.06% at the close of Q2) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), was up 46.32% YTD (vs. up 30.58% at the close of Q2). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 20.67% YTD (vs. up 14.07% at the close of Q2).
I will post additional third quarter performance data for Contest portfolios and Contest stock picks shortly.
First place IMAN’s portfolio, up an astonishing 113.49% YTD, widened its lead and not to be sniffed at are our second and third place contestants, with SMALLB’s portfolio, up 103.38% YTD and HRS’s portfolio, up 96.81% YTD.
At Friday's close, 46 of the 48 Contest portfolios were now in the green, with 34 still beating the NBI and 21 still beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have a remarkable average YTD gain of 33.77% and a median YTD gain of 14.58%, with 122 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe & relaxing fall weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
