Bill, as someone who is an advocate for much stronger gun control laws, I have some questions, and I figure the best place to ask is here. (No sense in asking liberals who don't know the difference between semi-automatic and "assault weapons," or who don't know that silencers don't exactly sound like they do in Hollywood.)

- How easy is it to buy a so-called "assault rifle"? And by that, I mean something which has a significant range, which can fire at a rapid rate, AND has minimal recoil. Doesn't have to be fully automatic.

- How much do said "assault rifles" cost?

- What is the main reason for the cost? Are these rifles that hard to make? Or are they due to regulations restricting the supply to a market where they are in high demand?

- Probably related to the first question, but what legal hoops do you have to go through in order to get one?

- And finally, how practical are modification kits that can convert semi-automatic assault rifles into fully automatic ones?

The reason why I ask is because I'm trying to gauge how hard it is to actually restrict them via legislation, politics notwithstanding. If they are actually hard to make, regulation might actually have an effect, but if they're easy to make, then there is no point.
