House of Representatives votes to ban abortions after 20 weeks By Autumn Price \| October 3, 2017, 06:41pm \| @AutumnDawnPrice On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to ban abortions after 20 weeks. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, also known as H.R. 36, passed 237 to 189. “We can all agree a 20-week-old fetus who feels the torturous pain of being slashed, or cut in two, should not be killed,” Rep. Trent Franks said. “I would simply want them to say that even though Americans are divided on the abortion issue, when it comes to protecting pain-capable unborn children that have reached the beginning of the sixth month, that we should all have the humanity to come together on something of that clarity and significance,” he said. “That I hope this bill will demonstrate the humanity of the unborn and the inhumanity of what’s being done to them.” Franks said that Americans “simply didn’t know how real these little babies were, how human they were, how much they looked like babies, that we could take their fingerprints at 10 weeks and identify them at 50 years. So there’s a lot of ignorance that occurs.” Franks introduced the legislation in January. The bill will now go to the Senate for a vote, and will go to President Trump’s desk if passed. Similar pro-life legislation passed the House of Representatives in 2015, but the measure later blocked by the U.S. Senate.
