I think the SOCC was the problem causing the earlier delays. But I gather everything is hunky dory, subject to a dress rehearsal as I mentioned. Delays are bad. The cost is astronomical. 4 months delay already with the amount of money sitting around rotting is a lot. The delay that really concerns me is the lack of marketing skill which is going to mean the system sits rusting for years before being filled. Bill Frezza and I are buddies on that issue. The days of centrally planned economies and centrally planned pricing are drawing to a close. Competition will see them gone, along with any companies which can't get to grips with the concept. The Brazilian who said that Brazilians will pay the highest price because it is the best, [re Iridium] is crazy! I suppose people will sometimes pay more simply because they assume others will have checked it out and it justifies it's market position at that price. Apple has come to grief in the long term because of such a strategy. A company which depends on a sucker being born every minute won't last too long. On the CDMA military Qualcomm Loral LEO system, I haven't heard of it. I guess it would be an equatorial system as that would be the only way to get any regular service without having masses of satellites. But 1000 km orbits wouldn't give coverage. So they must be medium orbit. Maybe 10000 km or something. With grunty handsets. Maurice
