Microsoft recently discovered a device called the terminal which they will attempt to use as a shield against the onslaught of distributed computing architectures. So rather than cloud the issue with a discussion about what precisely defines a network computer, we should focus on what's important: secure, reliable and distributed object technology and the software infrastructure necessary to support it. The banks, retailers, publishers, broadcasters and other industries with a critical dependency on software will adopt Java-based solutions. They will do so not only because it is superior to Microsoft's incoherent trash collection, but also because it's an accepted standard that doesn't tie them to the mast of one vendor. That's a refreshing thought for companies who see Microsoft trying to buy their way into those companies' market segments. I don't expect you to grasp this based on your commets, but repeated exposure may eventually trigger comprehension provided that's reinforced by actual industry events. Those events will soon begin to unfold.
