Let me go on the record to predict that LSI will not only beat the earnings estimate (maybe by a penny) but also will forcast a not so bad of next 2-3 quarters (despite all the South East Asian turmoil)! Yes, I know, I know, I may end up eating my own words next week when the earnings come out, but at this time I can not imagine LSI (at these prices and with all the horrible beating it has taken) will report anything that can cause its price to decline any further! This is especially true in the light of digital TVs, playstations and telecommunication equipments that are supposed to have an impressive growth for 1998 and beyond.
If I am correct in my assumptions regarding their earnings due out next week, then I say Lehman Brothers, Alex Brown and the rest of the con-artists that had LSI as a strong buy in the $40s and then changed their ratings to a hold/underperform in the 20's, can simply go and sho** their reports up their ***! If I am incorrect in my assumptions of next week's earnings report, well, all I can say is that,, I am just an engineer in Silicon Valley whose analysis of stocks is not his main job, and that we have the following quarter ahead of us, and the one after that and the one after that and....,and during one of those quarters LSI will be at a much much much higher price that its current values!
