Well, I don't see any lack of confidence in the US economy. The stock market really cares about what Alan Greenspan will do with interest rates.

In order to drop rates, we need more people unemployed at lower wages to give big Al room to cut.

Actually more employment is of course good for the economy and higher wages are good for the working stiff but this what happens lately seems as though what is good for the working person is bad for stocks/bonds.
