I've never been a fan of stock buybacks unless the top and bottom lines are growing for a significant period of time. IMO, CEOs should be pumping money into their workforce and R&D, not giving money to investors. If the buyback results in a rising market cap then it's a very good sign (for me). Far too often stock buybacks are used to hide the incompetence of CEOs since the stock should technically rise after a buyback. LRCX has a very strong market cap after buybacks so again, not a big problem.
