I once worked as an IT recruiter and the most important lesson I learned while doing that job was Companies generally like to hire or fill positions from within. The reasoning is they know what they have already, and the biggest problem companies have in hiring is the personality of the hiring. In many cases, they can teach you the job or what you need to know, BUT they can't change the personality. I saw some brilliant people at Microsoft who had the personality of a piece of wood. They kept their jobs but were rarely promoted.

So, I always tell people to find the company they want to work for and then find a job at whatever level, which will get their foot in the door and if hired bust your ass and prove yourself on whatever tasks they are given, and people will notice. Then in the future when a job becomes avail they could easily be selected for the job because again they know what they have.

Best
