Corporations don't have to be people in order for the people that comprise them or own them to need their rights protected, including their rights to make political statements.

As for corporate person-hood it wasn't invented by the Citizens United decision, its a legal doctrine that goes back to the 1800s in the US, maybe further in the UK.

Both corporate personhood and 1st amendment rights for people acting in organization and corporations are important.

Without the former you corporations can't sue or be sued. Without the later it would be just fine to censor not jut Citizens United but newspapers, TV stations, magazines, web sites etc. as long as they were run by corporations.
