I agree with everything you wrote except for the last bit. You may recall I found Tesla's deal with China odd in that they don't have to partner with a Chinese company and then I suggested the reason might be that Teslsa has open source patients. It already allows China or anyone else to use its patients,

While I don't have absolute proof of direct technology transfers it's clear to me that any US company in China has to partner with Chinese companies which have government censors who control everything the company does or says, Tesla may be the first that will not have government censors.
