10/27/2017 Contest update
Celgene spooked pretty much anything with biotech DNA Monday through Thursday. And although the Celgene curse seemed to lift on Friday, biotechs were only able to make up part of the week’s earlier losses. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 37.18% YTD (vs. up 44.69% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 19.50% YTD (vs. up 25.23% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), was up 41.80% YTD (vs. up 44.80% a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 24.49% YTD (vs. up 23.15% a week ago).
IMAN’s portfolio, up 110.56% YTD, continued as Contest leader, with SMALLB’s portfolio, up 93.05% YTD, retaking second place and BIOMAV’s portfolio, up 92.44% YTD, skipping into third place.
At Friday's close, 43 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 34 still beating the NBI and 23 now beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 27.59% and a median YTD gain of 8.09%, with 108 of the 195 picks still up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a fun pre-Halloween weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
