Where to begin?

Saddam was our friend for many decades even after he gassed his own people. You can accept this truth or ignore it. I don't care which you choose.

The US helped Saddam get chemical weapons (WMDs). Again, do what you want.

The US lied about Saddam having WMDs and Saddam told the truth. Again, same criteria.

The UN said Bush's intelligence was "outdated" and "garbage" so instead of getting new intelligence he went to war. Same criteria.

There were many excuses to go to war (namely the US was hit by a terrorist attack and was hyped so much that Americans wanted revenge against someone and that someone was not Saddam).

I'm not in any way defending what Iraq did when it gassed its own people or any other atrocities and I'm also fully aware that most countries commit atrocities. We can bomb Syria over a chemical attack that kills a few dozen children during the same month that our bombs kill over 130 children. I guess when we kill them they're not as dead as when Syria kills them.
