Here's some not good news(for RAPT) from Sun (source Information Week)
___Sun Security Offering To Include Firewall In Solaris___ Sun Microsystems next Monday will unveil a new security product and outline plans to offer businesses enterprise security that includes firewall functions built into the Solaris operating system. The first product in Sun's Secure Business Security strategy is Sunscreen SecureNet, which includes Sun's EFS firewall, encryption, host security, and virtual private network capability for remote users. SecureNet, to be released in March, lets IT managers control access to Java applets. Sun will also roll out the Sun Security Manager, which enables an IT department to administer the SecureNet system.
By midyear, Sun will offer a full-featured firewall in the Solaris operating system. "We see a significant business opportunity not being met by the specific security-product vendors," says Chris Tolles, Sun's Internet commerce and security marketing manager. Embedding a firewall into the operating system helps companies more easily deploy security throughout the network, Sun officials say.
By year's end, Sun will tie its security software to its Solstice management products and its Internet directory, a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol-based directory service announced last summer.
A SecureNet system that supports 100 or fewer nodes is $3,000; SecureNet for unlimited nodes is $10,000. Site licenses, which allow companies to purchase any number of SecureNet systems, are available for $350,000. Sun is also expected to announce its Security Consulting Practice, a global service aimed at helping companies assess and meet their security needs. -- Beth Davis
