Tom, nope, not too late and thanks for the AATI reminder...keep the info coming...now I can use one more volunteer for posts 276-300...am I pushing my luck here or what? Dan Ross has agreed to posts 251-275.
I hope to provide an update on the 1997 final results sometime over the weekend. Dan, Dan, Dan, you won't be pleased. A couple real longshots that didn't pan out. On the other hand some of the picks were ahead of the curve, and are poised to take off.
A reminder--the "Future Growth Stocks of 1997" were:
CPCI at 13.25 MRVC at 24.75 ANCR at 14.25 AMLJ at 13.125 MTLS at 14.75 (now MCRE) LKON at 2.8125
Off the top of my head: all are trading lower. Approximately, CPCI is at 12 MRVC is essentially unchanged, down about a point ANCR is much lower AMLJ is at about 6 but coming into its own MTLS is much lower, going through a series of downgrades but I like it LKON is at .60 and won't be off the BB anytime soon
Of these, I would probably put AMLJ and MRVC in the main portfolio, and MTLS in a runnerup portfolio.
CPCI would be dropped as its rapid growth seems to have slowed.
ANCR would be dropped although it is a promising longshot with takeover potential, its balance sheet makes it worrisome.
LKON, don't count it out, but wait for the story to improve.
On the whole, at current levels I would feel safe buying that whole basket again. Just goes to show valuation is everything. (And isn't it strange how the market now thinks everything is "overvalued"...sentiment is probably wrong, I bet that the 1997 portfolio, if held, would end up higher by 1999) |
