President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort surrendered to federal authorities on Monday, on charges reportedly including tax fraud.

Manafort was charged in an investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Manafort’s former business associate Rick Gates was also charged.

The indictment contains 12 counts: conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.

Manafort walked in to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s office in Washington at about 8:15 a.m. with his lawyer on Monday.

Mueller’s investigation has cast a shadow over Trump’s first year in office, and the president has repeatedly called any suggestion of collusion between Russia and his campaign “fake news.”

Manafort’s surrender comes at the start of a busy week for Trump, who is expected to name his choice to head the Federal Reserve. Dow futures YMZ7, -0.13% were trading lower Monday morning.
