They certainly are revolutionary, but for the better? The jury is still out on that. Amazon has destroyed the profit margins of an industry, but hasn't accrued those profit margins to itself. I love it and use it myself, but wonder how long their spree of market share gains at any cost can continue. Google is an amazing cash cow and have become a de facto monopoly and are looming over us as an implementer of censorship and liberal policies. Might as well throw Facebook in there too. These companies are creating spy machines like Echo that listen into our private affairs. Technology has moved so fast, we simply don't have the laws or protections to enable our Republic and our Freedom to survive it. I see the destruction of our fundamental rights everywhere I look and most people are blind to it. From an investing standpoint, it has been a great ride, though, despite the fact that we may be the last generation to truly be free in this country. At least, some of us will die rich. Cold comfort when I think of the world we'll leave behind to our children. When I think of that, the money leaves a taste like ashes in my mouth.
