I just watched this desktop take over a minute and a half to do a cold boot. I started Task Manager to see what was going on and didn't learn a lot. Except to see that by the time all was ready for me to actually do something with the machine it had loaded some 50+ "background processes". Some names I recognized, others not. Are all these things necessary? If not, how do I put a stop to the ones I don't really need? I'm sure at least a few of these things are just junk using up CPU and disk space.
