NuVista Energy (NVA-T) "scary good" third-quarter financial results led Raymond James analyst Kurt Molnar to raise his rating for the company's stock to "strong buy" from "outperform."

Tuesday after market close, the Calgary-based exploration and production company reported quarterly production of 29,405 barrels of oil equivalent per day, "handily" exceeding Mr. Molnar's projection of 27,000 boed. Cash flow of $41.5-million also easily topped the analyst's expectation ($25.6- million), which he says came "on the back of virtually every income statement line item beating our estimates on top of the production beat."

BMO Nesbitt Burns analyst Joe Levesque increased his share target by a Loonie to $9, keeping a "market perform" rating. Mr. Levesque says in a note: "We believe the shares are reasonably valued given the company's high-cost structure and significant processing obligations, which offsets production growth and improving well results. The company's strong hedged position offers some downside protection should commodity prices deteriorate further."
