11/3/2017 Contest update
For the biotech investor, you might say it was an ASH Wednesday and Good Friday week. And Friday was indeed especially good!
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 42.21% YTD (vs. up 37.18% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 19.75% YTD (vs. up 19.50% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), was up 44.81% YTD (vs. up 41.80% a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 25.66% YTD (vs. up 24.49% a week ago).
IMAN’s portfolio, up 105.57% YTD, held on to first place, but with a much diminished lead. Both second place BIOMAV’s portfolio, up 101.34% YTD, and third place SMALLB’s portfolio, up 101.15% YTD, are well within striking distance.
At Friday's close, 45 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 36 beating the NBI and 23 still beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 30.35% and a median YTD gain of 10.22%, with 112 of the 195 picks still up for the year.
