Spending restraint (you don't ever need to spend fewer dollars than the year before so actual cuts aren't needed, but I would be fine with them as long as its done smartly and not too much too quickly) is the best solution.

The federal government already taxes and spends too much. It shouldn't be as large as it is now, let alone as big as its projected to be in the future.

Even if tax increases are going to be part of covering the cost, spending restraining, reducing the future growth of spending, has to be a much bigger part of the solution. Remember the feds have never been able to sustain even current outlays as a percentage of GDP through taxation, at whatever top income tax level you might want.

Also federal tax reciepts are not below the post WW2 average percentage of GDP, but federal spending is above that level even before the entitlement crisis hits full force.
