On thing that worries me a bit is some of the revelations about Hollywood stars is edging towards defining how adults hook up with other adults, with the common theme being a "power" difference. In the case of the allegations against Moore, there are State laws that make sharp boundaries based on age, so that is law, and not a question. Those laws also typically have exceptions if the age differential is below a threshold. I once was in a jury selection pool for a statutory rape case in Oregon and there are several tiers of charges with age, and age differential, but those are defined laws. In Oregon if the age differential is under 3 years, its not a crime. So the State doesn't actual intrude into the sexual lives of a 12 and 14 year old, but it would for a 12 and 16 year old, etc.

When it comes to how of age adults make there intentions or wishes known to other adults we don't have much in the way of laws unless its actually rape. Do we want to make laws that say people of unequal "power" can't date because one is always under coercion? Do we want to define how people flirt? The problem is that a lot of this behavior is accepted if the person receiving them is in fact interested in a relationship, but they are seen as objectionable if the person isn't receptive. Shall we have a dating board make up some rules?

It seems a slippery slope.
