Here's a true and funny story about Charlie Chaplin... you may have heard it before, maybe not... Chaplin was so popular in his day that many other studios also tried to copy the Chaplin tramp character... Chaplin and his studio (Chaplin had his own studio called Limelight Studio) sued under the copyright infringement laws and he won... so, the other studios then had to come up with their own characters and not look anything like the Chaplin tramp... Buster Keaton and others the came along to fill that void... BUT, Chaplin was still such a worldwide and widely loved character that there were then a number of Charlie Chaplin look alike contests in nearly every city across the country... Oddly enough, without the tramp makeup, no one really knew what he looked like... The big contest was held in San Francisco... thousands of people entered that contest... Chaplin decided to enter that contest also just to see how he would do... Believe it or not, he didn't win, he came in 3rd!!! LOL!!! Chaplin entered several other contests and didn't win any of them, he didn't even make the finals, but he was a very good sport and had a wonderful sense of humor so he took it all in stride without saying anything to any of the contest judges... In Cleveland, Ohio, a very young actor/comedian named Bob Hope won the contest in that city... GZ
