TBS, w/r to Hong Kong, anyone refusing to engage w/ the returning sovereign has no future in Hong Kong, my guess, and best de-camp because staying would be debilitating over extended time, and no fun.
Singapore thinks of self as a nation, and as long as provides services, say banking, medical, finance, and education, I suppose okay until supplanted, no different from a company.
Taiwan is only a bit more self-sustaining, meaning it would be sucked into the vortex after Hong Kong, but possibly before Singapore, as Singapore also serves India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. But then Singapore has to compete against Hong Kong which in some mathematical way is subsidised by mainland China.
If one is a youngster in Taiwan, must consider either going to school in USA and/or China, Else future in doubt.
Interestingly Hong Kong hosts a lot of students from the mainland. We the resident are, in one word, flexible, and in another word, pragmatic. We like being such and so, for it pays, well.
Accumulation of excess savings is what allows the residents of Hong Kong to have the freedom we appreciate, to be able to vote w/ our airplane ticket anytime, and guarantees Hong Kong would remain Hong Kong even if vortex-ing in by gravitational pull.
Heck, even Brazil is having its orbit wobbled by natural-sizing of peaceful rise sovereign. |
