| | | i was not enthusiastic when my wife informed me she wanted another kid
i was happy w/ erita, the first-born
wife simply said, "don't you want a little sibling for erita?"
ok ok ok
when my wife noted that she was pregnant, i was net net happy but not over the moon due to budgetary concerns, and inkling of trouble in back of mind
i hoped the new baby would be another girl
the doctor was puzzled by my non-traditional stance
then my wife said, "it's a boy"
two thoughts occurred to me
(1) if the boy out does me in the way i fooled my parents, we are in trouble, for i was very good at fooling my parents
(2) should the boy fail to out do me in fooling parents, i would be disappointed
now?
jack is trending towards out-doing me, but in a way i did not expect
for he just does what he feels like seemingly without over-stepping imaginary bounds, and then looks at me, metaphysically noting, "now what are you going to do?"
i.e.
when younger, jack locked himself in his room refusing to go to school
and came out at 10:30 when it was too late to go to the half-day sessions
i spoke to him, and he responded, "dada, i will go to school tomorrow"
i heard him, and understood him. i was concerned because i understood. mama was happy because she did not understand.
next day, jack went to school, happy, without incident, and returned home happy. all good.
following day i received call from mama, "jack locked himself in again"
i spoke to jack later in the day, and he responded, "dada, i said i would go to school yesterday, and i did"
once at start of semester of pre-school, even before i had left the school compound, i saw the teacher running out the door chasing down the jack
it was a funny scene
go jack go
the best way to get jack to do stuff is to corral his friends to do same stuff, as my wife found same with me, i.e.
"jay, do you want to ..."
"no, i do not"
"but ______ and _____ are going"
"oh, okay" |
